WADE, N.C. — A pickup truck rear-ended a school bus on U.S. Highway 301 north of Fayetteville Friday afternoon, sending a dozen middle and high school students to the hospital. All of the injuries were minor, according to the state Highway Patrol, which responded to the wreck.

The bus was filled with students from Mack Williams Middle School and Cape Fear Valley High School, Bethea said. It had not yet made its first stop.

Trooper Marcus Bethea said Jesus Antonio Jose failed to brake sufficiently and ran into the back of the bus, which was stopped. Jose, 41, of Wade, was charged with DWI, reckless driving and failing to reduce speed to avoid colliding with a vehicle.

Jose and the students were all being treated at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
