RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police say an 11-year-old boy who was the subject of a Silver Alert Tuesday night has been found safe.

Rodney Lewis Clark Jr. was last seen Monday afternoon at a school bus stop on Oberlin Road near his home wearing a blue long-sleeved striped shirt and tan pants.

It wasn't immediately clear why the alert wasn't issued until Tuesday night, but Raleigh police say he got in trouble at school Monday and might have been afraid of getting in trouble.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
