1-year-old injured in Johnston County fire

Posted January 27, 2011

— A 1-year-old child was taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital on Thursday after a fire severely damaged his home, Fire Marshall Chris Perry said.

The fire started in the kitchen of the home on Hunting Drive in Selma, Perry said.

The 1-year-old and two other young children were in the care of a teen relative when the fire broke out.

The children’s father was at work and their mother was in the hospital for an unrelated illness.

The fire was accidental.

The teen and other children were not seriously hurt.

A tragedy that some (Wake1) wants to diminish. Any burn is bad and so, all, should be celebrating that the burn is treatable at a local hospital.

Lets leave the teen alone here. Dad's working, doing the best he can...the Mom is in the hospital sick..and their hoouse burned down. This is a poor area. I am sure they are doing all they can. Don't know if they own or rent. good luck to them all!

Couldn't have been too badly injured if they took him to Johnston Memorial.

I wish they wouldn't use the term "teen" in stories like this. I'm sure someone is going to push the issue of leaving kids at home with kids. Hopefully this isn't the case and it would be a17, 18 or 19 year old.
