ZEBULON, N.C. — One person was killed on Tuesday morning in an accident with a tractor-trailer on N.C. Highway 96 near Fowler Road in Zebulon.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said a woman in a Chevrolet Equinox died after colliding with the tractor-trailer, which was carrying lumber. In addition to the woman who died, there were two children in the vehicle, an 8-year-old and an 11-year-old, officials said.

Officials said Janelle Vick Brown, 63, was behind the wheel of the Chevrolet, and Norris Riggins, 50, was the operator of the tractor-trailer.

The highway was closed for several hours as authorities completed the investigation into the accident.
