— One person was killed on Tuesday morning in an accident with a tractor-trailer on N.C. Highway 96 near Fowler Road in Zebulon.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said a woman in a Chevrolet Equinox died after colliding with the tractor-trailer, which was carrying lumber. In addition to the woman who died, there were two children in the vehicle, an 8-year-old and an 11-year-old, officials said.

Officials said Janelle Vick Brown, 63, was behind the wheel of the Chevrolet, and Norris Riggins, 50, was the operator of the tractor-trailer.

The highway was closed for several hours as authorities completed the investigation into the accident.

Authorities have not released the condition of the survivors, or the identities of the two children.
