SPRING LAKE, N.C. — Harnett County authorities on Wednesday morning arrested and charged as Siler City man with murder after a shooting in Spring Lake.

Authorities were dispatched late Tuesday night to 352 McKay Dr. to a report of shots fired. When a deputy and a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper arrived, they found a group of three women holding a suspect, according to the Harnett County Sheriff's Office.

“Two women were hollering out there ‘we’ve got the shooter’ and the deputy and the trooper went over there and they did have him by the arms,” Sheriff Wayne Coats said.

The suspect, identified as Terrell White, 30, of Siler City, tried to run from authorities but was captured shortly after.

The women said White struggled while they were holding him and he had dropped his gun by time they had reached him, otherwise they would not have approached him.

“Our citizens are our biggest allies. This is a case where we’ve asked them in the past if you see something, call us, and let us know what’s going on. These ladies took it on their own and they grabbed him,” said Coats.

The sheriff's office said Lawrence Wallace, 22, of Spring Lake, died in the shooting that stemmed from an altercation between the two men.

Witnesses said White pulled Wallace out of the car and dragged him across the street as he was bleeding for his wounds.

White was charged with first-degree murder and was jailed without bond.

A second person, who was not identified, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting and was transported to Cape Fear Valley Hospital.
