Posted April 7, 2014

A 23-year woman was killed and two other people were injured in a three-vehicle accident on Interstate 40 in Raleigh Sunday night, police said Monday.

Cassandra Jean Martin, 23, died shortly before 10:45 p.m. when the car she was in crashed into another car that was involved in an earlier collision with a tractor-trailer.

Police said the tractor-trailer's driver, William Jerome Clyburn, 60, was entering eastbound I-40 from Hammond Road when the truck collided with a car driven by Terry Lane Thompson, 56.

Richmon Taron Hairston, 24, was driving the car Martin was in when it hit Thompson's car, authorities said.

Hairson and Thompson were both taken to WakeMed in Raleigh, where they were treated for injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

Police are still investigating the wrecks, a police spokesman said Monday. No charges have been filed.
