One man was hurt and westbound lanes of Interstate 540 were shut down for about 20 minutes Thursday after an accident. 

RALEIGH, N.C. — One man was hurt and westbound lanes of Interstate 540 were shut down for about 20 minutes Thursday after an accident.

A car rear ended a tractor trailer at about 4:45 p.m. on I-540 near the Lumley Road exit.

The driver of the car, whose name was not released, was pinned beneath the tractor trailer. He was seriously hurt, but his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

Police determined the man driving the car was at fault for the accident and charges were pending. However, investigators said they do not believe speed or alcohol were factors.

Mykia Daniel, an eighth grader at Ligon Middle School, was shot and killed on Monday in a north Raleigh apartment. A 16-year-old was charged with her murder.
