Virginia woman killed in I-40 crash in Raleigh

One person died in single-vehicle crash on Sunday morning that snarled traffic on Interstate 40 in Raleigh for a couple hours.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Virginia woman died in single-vehicle crash on Sunday morning that snarled traffic on Interstate 40 in Raleigh for a couple hours.

Raleigh police said a Subaru SUV veered off the eastbound lanes and struck a tree near Wade Avenue.

Passenger Patricia Scott Morgan, of Amelia Court House, Va., was killed. A second passenger, Anne McArthur Morgan, of Morrisville, was trapped in the SUV and suffered serious injuries.

Driver Samuel Michael Morgan, of Amelia Court House, and passenger Mary Deanne Morgan, of Durham, suffered minor injuries.

Police haven't determined the cause of the crash.
