RALEIGH, N.C. — One person was killed in a drive-by shooting Saturday night near North Carolina State University.

The shooting happened at College View Apartments, 1423 Collegeview Avenue, at about 11 p.m., according to a campus police alert.

Raleigh officers responded to reports of shots fired at the address and found Irvin Adan Gonzalez-Martinez, 18, with fatal wounds.

"Oh man, I can't believe he died so young," said Javier Morales, who has known Gonzalez-Martinez since elementary school. "Just like that, out of nowhere."

Daniel Deleon Pittman, 23, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Detectives believe the crime was not random.

Investigators could not provide any detailed suspect or vehicle information.

Students who live in the area said they're now concerned for their safety.

"We asked if we were safe to stay here for the night and (police) said they would be investigating all night so they said obviously we're safe with them, but they didn't make us feel like we'd be safe here forever," Rebecca Galt said.

Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call Raleigh police.
