— Authorities said one person died in a crash in Harnett County.

The accident occurred at around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on Bill Shaw Road in Spring Lake, authorities said.

Troopers said Steven Maggard's pickup truck crossed the center line and hit another truck. Maggard's truck later went into a ditch before striking a tree, investigators said.

Authorities said Maggard died at the scene. They also said the driver of the other pickup truck, who has not yet been identified, will not face charges.

I am very sorry for your familys loss. My husband worked with Steve a while back and feels honored to have known him. His wife is a very strong person and gave amazing amounts of time and devotion to the military community. I am truly sorry for their loss and I will keep them in my thoughts and prayers. First I want to say how grateful I am that the other driver was not injured. Unfortunately, this was my Uncle Steve.

I don't know what happened, all I know is that this man was absolutely amazing. He leaves behind 2 daughters, a wife and a family that loves, respects, and will miss him terribly.

He was in the Army Special Forces and fought for his country for over 20 years. Going places and seeing things most of us couldn't even dream of. He recently retired and was planning to come home to us in Ohio. Unfortunately that never came to pass.

Please remember this great man and his family in this time of grief.

No blame needs to be placed here.

The article said the other guy will NOT face charges. Who knows - he may have been a contributing factor, like drunk, etc., etc.

At Work : that is exactly what I was thinking. Whoever wrote this article needs to re-read their stuff before they post it. What a ridiculous thing to add to the story when it clearly says the man who died (rest in peace) went across the center line. Sheesh.

Why would the other guy face charges when steven was the one to cross the line. The other guy was not going over the line!!
