GOLDSBORO, N.C. — One person died and two others were injured early Saturday morning when a side-by-side utility vehicle crashed at an ATV park in Wayne County.

Mar Mac first responders were dispatched around 12:10 a.m. to the Busco Beach and ATV Park after someone called 911 to report the crash. The caller said a 30-year-old man was unresponsive, and others were performing CPR on him, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.

When authorities arrived, the man was pronounced dead. Two women, ages 29 and 30, were injured in the crash.

None of their identities were released.

Authorities determined the man was driving the vehicle when he hit a mound of dirt causing the vehicle to roll over.

The sheriff's office said the three people were from out of town.

Between 2004 and 2010, five people were killed in ATV crashes at Busco Beach. The current owners said since they took over in February 2012, accidents have "decreased dramatically."

Co-owner Amber Pierce said the park routinely has sheriff's deputies and paramedics on the grounds. She also said riding four-wheelers is restricted between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. and helmet laws are enforced.

"You drive at your own risk. It's people that are being irresponsible. It's their own driving, their inability to drive and not being conscious of what they're doing," said regular visitor Lori Mandan.

Chris Thomas and his wife, April, travel from Lynchburg, Virginia once a month to visit the park where the crash occurred and said the area is safe.

"It's real safe. The owners are pretty good. They make you wear your helmets, they got speed limits," Thomas said. "You can't control everybody, you really cant, but overall it's a good place. It's family oriented, it's good for kids."
