4 arrested, linked to bank robbery, chase in Lumberton

Lumberton police on Thursday arrested Jeramie Ross Vaughn and charged him in connection with the robbery earlier this week of a PNC Bank at 707 N. Chestnut St. Police have said four people with guns and wearing masks robbed the bank and led police in a chase after their escape.

LUMBERTON, N.C. — Lumberton police on Thursday arrested Jeramie Ross Vaughn and charged him in connection with the robbery earlier this week of a PNC Bank at 707 N. Chestnut St. Police have said four people with guns and wearing masks robbed the bank and led police in a chase after their escape.

As they fled, the suspects fired at Lumberton police officers, striking several patrol cars.

Nobody was injured, but the robbers got away with an undisclosed amount of money.

Security cameras took photos of the suspects during the robbery, but they were wearing masks, disguises and long-sleeved shirts. At least two suspects wore masks, and another wore a fake beard.

Vaughn was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, second-degree kidnapping and assault on law enforcement officers with a firearm. He was being held at the Robeson County Detention Center on $175,000 secured bond.

Demetrius Smith was charged on Jan. 30 in connection with the case, but authorities did not say what charges he faced. Rashad Donovan Young and Daquan Pridgen were previously charged in connection with the incident.

The State Highway Patrol, FBI, Columbus County Sheriff's Office and several other law enforcement agencies are assisting in the investigation and search for the others involved. Those men should be considered armed and dangerous, authorities said.

Anyone who sees anything suspicious or recognizes the men in the surveillance images is asked to call 911 or the Lumberton Police Department at 910-671-3846.
