Raleigh, N.C. — A group of 465 "Team V" members raised more than $300,000 in April's Rock 'n' Roll Raleigh Marathon & Half-Marathon presented by WRAL, The V Foundation announced Tuesday.
Each Team V member raised a minimum of $500, officials said.
"Team V did a great job raising funds for cancer research," CEO Susan Braun said in a statement. "Each individual athlete made such an important statement by participating. Their physical and philanthropic strength is an inspiration to us all."
The V Foundation has awarded more than $115 million in research grants for all types of cancer to more than 100 institutions nationwide since it was founded by former North Carolina State University basketball coach Jim Valvano in 1993.
Team V members ranged from 13 to 69 years old and came from 32 states. The inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Raleigh event brought out more than 12,000 runners on April 13.
