ELKHORN, NEB. — October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and some people in Elkhorn are celebrating it.

Sunday was the third annual "Support the Girls" fundraiser event.

It helps local breast cancer fighters and survivors shine a light on the disease.

Vendors and artist booths lined Elkhorn Drive all in support of finding a cure.

Some men even wore decorated bras to auction off as a way to raise money.

"It's a great way for the community to help others that are battling breast cancer," said Michele Minnick, chairperson for the event. "All the money that we raise today will stay with local Elkhorn families that are battling breast cancer."

Last year's event raised more than $15,000 that helped local families.

This year, they're hoping to surpass that amount.
