'Snowball Express' helps families of fallen soldiers have fun
Dozens of children of fallen service members from Fayetteville will head south Thursday morning aboard the Snowball Express, a nonprofit program that flies family members somewhere fun.
Posted — UpdatedThe Snowball Express is scheduled to arrive in Fayetteville at 7:50 a.m. and depart for Fort Worth, Texas, at 8:30.
Families will return to North Carolina Monday after a four-day paid vacation.
Jocelyn Bohle, an 8-year-old Snowball Express rider, is making her fourth trip after losing her father.
"My father was a great man. He was a great father. He was very nice, and I loved him dearly and I miss him dearly," she said.
Dar Arp, a Patriot Guard Rider, was at the airport Thursday to help families park their cars and prepare for the trip to Texas.
"We're supporting the troops. These families have lost somebody in combat. We're supporting the families of soldiers that have fallen, and that's what we do all the time," Arp said.
Since 2006, Snowball Express has flown children from all over the world to Texas for fun activities like sporting events, dances, amusement parks and more. The express is presented by American Airlines.
