''Round Midnight' beautifully ties together the stories of four Vegas women from different decades

"'Round Midnight" by Laura McBride is the story of four women from different cultural backgrounds building their lives in Las Vegas over the course of six decades. Despite the title, the time of day matters very little when compared to the significance of the historical journey this book takes you on.
The story begins in the Las Vegas Midnight Room of the El Capitan casino and spans from the 1960s into the modern 2000s. Every character is coping with the repercussions of their past and attempting to conquer the injustices and challenges they face as minorities and as women active in a fast-paced, highly controversial lifestyle. As time goes on, the reader is given the opportunity to experience the depth and gravity of every situation these women face, and hearts break beneath the weight of the world falling upon the characters' shoulders.
McBride takes four very different individual stories and interlinks them, one connected with another, all through the Midnight Room. The plotline develops in such a way that the reader is given the opportunity to watch events unfold as they happen to the main character while still having the ability to look at the grand scheme of things, ultimately allowing the reader the opportunity to bond with each of the four main characters.
Through outstanding character development and beautifully crafted storytelling, McBride uses the stories of four seemingly insignificant women to weave her tale into the readers' heartstrings, bringing empathy, compassion and grief comparable to the way readers may feel about their own lives.
There are several themes within this book that may not be considered family friendly. This includes assault, abuse, death and loss, forced marriage, racism, sex trafficking, sexual content and violence.
