Harry Potter is coming to America. Producers announced Thursday, May 4, that the London play based on J.K. Rowling's book series "Harry Potter and the Curse Child" is opening on Broadway in New York City, April 22, 2018, according to The New York Times.
The script, written by Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, was released worldwide last July to midnight bookstore parties that hearkened back to the original book releases, according to Newsweek.
Taking place 19 years after the end of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," and borrowing from the epilogue at the end of the seventh book, "Cursed Child" follows an adult Harry Potter, who now heads magical law enforcement at the Ministry of Magic, and his son Albus Severus who struggles to find his identity under the shadow of the famous "Chosen One."
Now more Potter fans will have a chance to experience the story in its intended format, which won several Olivier Awards, the United Kingdom's Tony Award equivalent, including best new play.
The Broadway production will be in two parts, as it was in London, which audiences can watch over one or two days, according to the New York Times. John Tiffany will continue to direct the production, but casting remains unannounced.
Tickets go on sale this fall.
