'Frozen,' 'Lego Movie' among art museum's summer family flicks

Posted May 14, 2014

The N.C. Museum of Art's outdoor summer movie series includes a couple of the year's most popular family movies - "Frozen" and "The Lego Movie," along with the classic "Mary Poppins."

The rest of the schedule features PG-13 and R-rated movies, making it fun for families with older kids or adult night outs.

"Mary Poppins" is slated for 9 p.m., June 27. "Frozen" is set for 9 p.m., July 11. And "The Lego Movie" is planned 8:30 a.m., Aug. 23. (I know those late times make it tricky for lots of families, but they have to wait for the sun to go down).

Gates open 90 minutes before showtime. Picnics are welcome. Beer, wine, popcorn and candy are available for purchase. Tickets are $5 and free for museum members.

Movies take place at the museum's Museum Park Theater. And this year, the outdoor movies will be shown in high-definition digital format, making them look and sound sharper.

The museum in west Raleigh also has a very popular summer concert series, which includes Grammy winner Dan Zanes and Paperhand Puppet Intervention for families.
