— A dump truck driver has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and unsafe movement after a 33-year-old woman died in a wreck on U.S. Highway 401 near Old State Road.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Calvin Louis Woods Jr. was driving a dump truck southbound on U.S. Highway 401 when he attempted to make a U-turn.

Woods had to back up during his U-turn attempt, troopers said, and Suzanne Nickol Baker, of Raleigh, struck the back of the dump truck as she traveled north on 401.

Baker died at the scene.

An investigation of the wreck is ongoing.

The clear visibility of the license plate during the initial location reports last night was a very poor decision. Still a developing story, but no respect for the gravity of the news about to be delivered to a now-grieving family. That's not good journalism.

So sad! Thoughts and prayers to all involved. Something is just a little strange. Since the investigation is still in progress, all the facts must not be out. Just a little curious if the truck had stopped and was starting to back up, did the driver of the car just not notice the truck in front of her? Doesn't appear the truck driver slammed on brakes or anything. It will be interesting once the investigation has concluded.
