Sixty years after meeting, couple returns to State Fair
Bill and Annie Merril Braswell made a special trip back to the State Fair this year, the place they met 60 years ago.
Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — Bill and Annie Merril Braswell made a special trip back to the State Fair this year, the place they met 60 years ago.
“I came with a friend and we met over at the teacups,” Bill Braswell said. “I was introduced to her and the rest is history.”
The couple was married the following July after they met at the fair in 1955. The Braswells now have five children, 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Plenty has changed at the fair since the Braswells met.
“Back then it [the State Fair] wasn’t as much pavement as it is now—more dirt,” Braswell said.
