DURHAM, N.C. — The popular 1988 film "Bull Durham" is getting the musical treatment.

The musical will be helmed by director Kip Fagan. The book or narrative will be written by the film's director and screenwriter Ron Shelton. Acclaimed songwriter Susan Werner will handle music and lyrics.

Named the "greatest sports movie of all-time" by Sports Illustrated, the film centers around a love triangle between veteran catcher "Crash" Davis, rookie hot-shot pitcher "Nuke" LaLoosh and local muse for the team Annie Savoy. The movie was shot on location at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham.

The musical is expected to debut in September at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta.
