'Blue Alert' will aid in search for those who assault police
A "Blue Alert" will aid in the search for suspects who kill or inflict serious bodily injury on a law enforcement officer.

Gov. Pat McCrory last week signed a measure that adds Blue Alerts to Amber Alerts, designed to draw attention to missing children, and Silver Alerts, which lets people know to be on the lookout for missing adults.
"This legislation will help curtail violence against our police officers by engaging the community to help capture suspects who seek to harm an officer," according to a news release from the Governor's Office.
The same bill expands the Silver Alert system to cover more people, including those suffering from "dementia, Alzheimer's disease or a disability that requires the individual be protected from potential abuse or other physical harm." It also adds forensic scientists to the list of state employees who can receive the protection of being designated "career state employees" after being employed for 24 consecutive months.
