'Bicycle Man's' widow keeping his dream alive, plans to give away 1,000 bikes
The widow of Fayetteville's "The Bicycle Man," who surprised thousands of children with refurbished bikes, is keeping his dream alive this Christmas by repairing and donating bikes, just like her husband did.
Posted — Updated“I really did not know how much work it was until I got to the helm myself,” said Ann Mathis.
Moses Mathis died two years ago. Since then, his wife has made sure her husband’s memory and his dream project live on.
“I understand the passion that he (had) for this. Seeing the smiles on kids’ faces, he lived for that,” she said.
Ann Mathis plans to give away 1,000 bikes this Christmas, something she says she couldn’t do without help from volunteers like Bob Miarer.
“I was one of those kids that had a bike that came out of a junk yard and made it work, and to see these other kids have it, it’s going to be really cool,” he said.
