'Approach is important:' Kids, police officers share advice in Fuquay-Varina web series

Posted February 15

Fuquay-Varina teen Sekou and Cpl. Hodges, with the town's police department, are featured in the new web series.

Last week, I wrote about The Other Side, a new web series produced by Amazing Studios, a Fuquay-Varina-based production company.

The series features conversations between police officers and kids - all from Fuquay-Varina. They are honest, funny, serious and important.

"Our hope is to build on the value of just sitting down and talking with the other side and understanding them and where they are coming from and hopefully create more conversation where we talk to each other, not at each other," said Mike Cole, Amazing Studio's president, told me.

The new segments are released every Tuesday. This week, it features Sekou, a teen, and Cpl. Anthony Hodges.

In one exchange, Hodges asks Sekou if he had any advice. After saying he was too young to offer advice, Sekou said this:

"Approach is very important. If you were to come up to people and have a serious tone, if it's a serious situation, I would under the serious tone. But if it's just walking around everyday and having a serious tone ... people may get scared ... just seeing that a person is always so serious all the time."

Replied Hodges: "That's not bad advice."
