$2 million Powerball ticket sold in Raleigh

That’s where a winning $2 million Powerball ticket was purchased for Wednesday night’s drawing. North Carolina Education Lottery officials said Thursday they’re still waiting for the mystery winner to come forward and claim the hefty prize.

The $3 Power Play ticket matched all five white balls, but not the Powerball, in Wednesday’s drawing, beating odds of 1 in 5.1 million.

The winning white ball numbers were 6-10-23-41-45.

Nobody won the entire $126.7 million jackpot, so it rolled into an estimated $150 million jackpot for Saturday's drawing. The game is played in 42 states, Washington, D.C., and the Virgin Islands.

“There are lots of prizes won in every Powerball drawing besides the jackpot, and this is our first $2 million winning Powerball ticket of the year,” lottery spokesman Ryan Kennemur said. “We’re very excited to meet the lucky ticket holder and hope to see even more winners in Saturday’s drawing.”

The Food Lion shopper wasn’t the only winner. Lottery officials said the game produced another 18,856 winning tickets totaling $142,303. The biggest among them was a $10,000 ticket sold at the Pop Shoppe in Charlotte.

On Tuesday, a Zebulon farmer claimed a $1.1 million Cash 5 drawing. It was the second win on the same game for Homer Buffaloe, who also split a $408,066 winning ticket in 2010.

Lottery winners have 180 days to claim their prize.
