RALEIGH, N.C. — A former Carolina Kids Pediatrics employee was arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing more than $700,000 from the practice.

Lori Wilkinson Pote, 50, is charged with seven counts of embezzlement dating back to 2007.

The company discovered the financial discrepancies in February and immediately contacted Raleigh police. Pote, the practice’s office manager with access to its finances, was subsequently fired.

A spokesperson said the company, confident that medical and financial records were not compromised, has changed its business practices since Pote’s firing.

“We can assure our patients and the community that only the highest ethical standards of medical and business practices will be tolerated at Carolina Kids Pediatrics,” the company said in a written statement.

Pote is in the Wake County jail on a $2.7 million bond, the same amount she is accused of taking. A judge on Friday denied a request from her attorney to lower her bond.
