A woman was rescued Friday when the front porch of her Cary home collapsed and her legs became trapped in the debris.

According to the town of Cary, around 9:15 a.m. a homeowner was standing on the front porch of her home on Joel Court, off High House Road near downtown Cary, when it collapsed, and her legs became trapped.

WRAL News learned the woman was leaving the house with her daughter when she fell through the porch.

Neighbors heard screaming and called 911. According to firefighters, it took more than 45 minutes to get the woman out.

"My dog was barking," said Kent Dezendorf, a neighbor. "I looked out the window and saw the fire department and stepped out to make sure my neighbors were okay."

According to Dezendorf, the neighborhood is close knit, and neighbors were texting each other about the rescue.

"The fire department must have gotten here in minutes," Dezendorf said. "Nothing like this has happened before; it's definitely an unusual thing."

A large hole could be seen in the wooden front porch, and yellow tape surrounded the home.

"It was a unique call for us," said a firefighter with the Cary Fire Department. "There was a concrete slab that had her leg between the slab and the foundation of the house. She was conscious [and] alert, she was stable. She could talk to us through her pain."

According to the town, the woman's injuries are not severe.

A building inspector told WRAL News he saw signs of "deferred maintenance" of the porch.
