Robber killed in Cumberland County home invasion

A 23-year-old man attempting to break into a home south of Fayetteville was shot and killed early Saturday, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

HOPE MILLS, N.C. — A 23-year-old man attempting to break into a home south of Fayetteville was shot and killed early Saturday, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. 

Deputies responded to the home, which is in the 300 block of Brooklyn Circle in Hope Mills, at about 1:45 a.m. 

Investigators said Theodore Horton was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

No other information about the home invasion has been released, but a sheriff's office spokeswoman said no residents were injured.

Horton's body will be sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.
